About Oia

Oia clings to the northern tip of Santorini's caldera, a labyrinth of stepped marble lanes, blue-domed churches and renovated cave dwellings (yposkafa) carved into the volcanic rock. The ruined Byzantine Castle at the village edge draws thousands each evening for the sunset over the Aegean, while Ammoudi Bay below offers seafood tavernas and a small boat harbour for volcano trips. Permanent life is thin and seasonal: most properties are luxury second homes or boutique-hotel-style rentals, with strict heritage controls limiting any new construction. It is spectacular and exclusive, but car-dependent beyond the village core and heavily reliant on the May–October season, and the Golden-Visa short-term-let ban now reshapes the rental case.
