About South Congress (SoCo)

South Congress is the neighborhood that launched a thousand "Keep Austin Weird" bumper stickers. Walking the main strip feels like stepping into a curated gallery of Austin's personality — vintage cowboy boots at Allen's Boots, a line out the door at Home Slice Pizza, the neon "I love you so much" mural on Jo's Coffee, and the unmistakable sound of live blues drifting from the Continental Club. Beyond the commercial strip, the residential streets are a charming mix of 1940s bungalows and sleek modern builds. Mature pecan trees shade the sidewalks, and front-yard gardens range from xeriscaped minimalism to riot-of-color cottage gardens. The neighborhood sits just south of Lady Bird Lake, making downtown a quick bike ride or walk across the Congress Avenue Bridge — famous for its 1.5 million Mexican free-tailed bats that emerge at sunset from March through October.
